Bay Window Curtain Rods Made with Dowels
A great idea for DIY bay window curtain rods is to make them with the help of dowels. To make these functional bay window curtain rods, you will need a long dowel, decorative drawer knobs, a hand-held drill, a handsaw, T nut bolts and spray paint. First measure the width of all the three window casements of the bay window. Now cut the dowel into three pieces, according to the dimension of the window. If your bay window is not the three window casement style, but consists of one wide window, then you need not cut the dowel at all.
Drill holes at the ends of the dowel by attaching a drill bit to a hand-held drill. While drilling holes into the dowel, make sure that it is properly centered. Attach T nut bolts on each holes of the dowels and make sure it is flush with the dowel ends. Screw in the decorative drawer knobs on each end of the dowels. If you want to give the curtain rod a more finished look, then spray paint it with a matt or metallic textured paint. Install curtain rods on the brackets of the bay windows.
Bay Window Curtain Rods Made with Branches
You can make bay window curtain rods with the help of big sturdy branches or stumps cut out of trees. While using branches to make bay window curtain rods, there are a few things that you need to keep in mind. Use branches that are relatively straight and sturdy and hang curtains that are made in some light material. To make curtain rods with branches, you need to hunt for three branches that are long enough to cover the entire width of the windows.
Avoid using soft wood for this project as it will not be able to bear the weight of the curtains. Once you have found the branches, cut or trim them with a saw into the required shape and length. Now lightly sand the branches with a fine grit sandpaper and paint them with spray paint in a neutral color. When the paint is dry, mount the three branch rods on the three window casement of the bay window. Voila! Your branch bay window curtain rods are ready to mount on the brackets. You can hang tab-top or tie-top curtains for best results.
