All doors are incomplete without a proper and easy-to-use door knob. A door knob is what adds to the utility value of the door by which we can easily push, pull, open, or close the door. They are available in various designs, patterns, and styles to cater to the myriad tastes of all consumers.
Most door knobs today come with an in-built lock system because of which you do not have to install a separate lock system for the door―this also saves you a lot of money. However, lock systems generally come in limited designs that may not suit the décor of your room and may not be compatible with the door either.

You will need the following tools and materials:
  • Screw Driver
  • Door Knob Kit
  • Wrenches
  • Strike Plate
Follow the simple steps given here to install a door knob of your choice.
Step 1: Select The Right Door Knob
The market is full of different knobs but you need to choose one that suits your door the best. A classic glittery golden knob would look nice in the store but won't suit the door of your bathroom. Hence, always consider the pattern, color, and material of the door knob before buying it.
Pay attention to the lock system of the knob. If you have kids or elderly people in the house, complicated locks would not be ideal for them to use. Buying a sturdy knob for the main door will provide you with good security, whereas, for interior doors, keyless knobs can also be used.
Step 2: Remove the Old Door Knob
With the help of the screw driver, start unscrewing the rosette or a trim. Once you remove all the screws, pull the rosette and the knob off the door from both the sides. If there are no screws to the trim, you will have to use a flat head screwdriver to remove it from the door.
A plate known as the mounting plate will be kept in place with the screws. Remove that as well from the door by unscrewing it. After that, remove the strike plate from the door frame and you will get an empty hole where the knob was situated.
Step 3: Install the New Door Knob
Open the new door knob kit that has all the parts. You have to start with a metal plate which will hold the door latch when the door is closed. Fix this strike plate with the help of two screws. Now, fix the latch on the edge of the door using the crews and screwdriver.
After that, take a mounting plate and secure its place with the screws on both sides of the door. You can use long screws to hold the plates and the overall arrangement together. It will also increase the strength of the lock system.
Finally, attach the door knob in the right place with the help of screws and tighten them. Make sure to check if the knob is functional and moves smoothly before tightening the screws.
Door knobs that can be installed without screws are also available in the market, but these are a bit expensive. Whichever door knob you install, ensure that it enhances the appearance, function, and security of the door.
