An existing window can be replaced by a bay window to bring in a larger view of the scenic beauty outside. It not only increases the space in a room but also adds to the ambiance of the room. There are two ways of installing it. In the first method, the frame of the existing window is replaced by the new bay window frame. These frames are easy to install, and moreover the cost of installation is cheaper. In the second method, the bay windows are installed along with the necessary flooring and ceiling which is quite expensive.
The foremost step is to know the norms of the local government and accordingly plan for installation. The next thing is to decide the size and style of the window that you want to install. It is advisable to choose by taking into consideration that it is a DIY job. If you want to install one at a height higher than the first floor, it is recommended to get the installation done by a professional.
Now that you have decided the spot where you want to install the bay window and bought the kit for installing it, take measurements of the window frame. Mark the outline of the windows as per the dimensions of the new ones.
The installation kit generally consists of the windows, head boards, and seat windows. Before installation, read through the instruction pamphlet that comes along with the kit. You must gather all the necessary material required for the installation.
The windows in the kit are to be assembled according to the instructions. The size of the window opening must be checked, and accordingly the window frame must be installed with the help of a toenail. The frames are to be positioned with the help of screws.
It is recommended that during installation, you have someone to help you because the bay windows are heavy. They are placed in the frame with the help of shims, and you should ensure that each window is positioned at the required level of the frame.
The next step is to install the head boards and attach them securely with the help of screws. After this, install the insulating film between the rooftop and top of the bay window. Attach the shingles to the headboard, and secure the edges of the rooftop with a metal strip.
The bottom side of the window frame is filled with fiberglass insulation, and you should attach the bottom skirt frame to the window frame from outside. The bay window is given a support by attaching a diagonal support wooden rod so that it can carry the weight of the window.
These are the steps for installing a bay window. Installing them is a little more difficult than the installation of ordinary windows. If someone assists you during the replacement, you are good to go.
