We invest a considerable amount of time and money on flooring materials, in order to add a touch glamor and beauty to our home. But many of us hardly spare a thought when it comes to our garage floor. Being one of the most neglected parts of many houses, they are often found with the same old and withering concrete floors that can't withstand harsh corrosive chemicals, like grease, oil, battery acids, and other substances.

The continuous exposure to these materials can corrode the garage floor, and make it dirty and stained. Cleaning such a concrete floor can be a really challenging and time-consuming task. Your garage floor needs proper maintenance and care to last longer. Moreover, it is an important part of your house, and so, a well-maintained and clean garage will always add value to your house.

Types of Garage Floor

There are several options for garage flooring, of which the common ones are, vinyl or lacquer paints, epoxy, and floor tiles. Though vinyl and lacquer paints can protect your garage floor from corrosion, they are usually considered a short-term solution to this problem. Moreover, painting the entire floor can be a really time-consuming and tedious job. Compared to paints, epoxy can be more durable, and they can enhance the look of your garage.

But floor tiles can provide a long-lasting or permanent solution to your garage flooring problem, though it is a bit expensive than the other two flooring options. However, the cost of installation is quite less, and the tiles can considerably reduce the cost of frequent repairing and maintenance. Some garage tiles come with an applied adhesive, and a plastic covering placed over them. So all you need to do is peel off the covering, and place the tile on the floor, just like a sticker.

However, before pasting such tiles on your garage floor, be sure to clean the floor properly to remove grease and oil from the surface. Another option is the interlocking tiles that can be easily installed. In fact, you can install them on your own with some simple instruments, like a utility knife, knee pads, and a tape measure.

Garage floor tiles are available in a wide range of colors and patterns to conform to your taste and style. They are highly resistant to corrosive substances, including oil, chemicals, grease, brake fluid, etc., and they can be easily cleaned by sweeping or washing with water. They are also resilient to cracks and dents, and can withstand the weight of heavy vehicles. Another advantage is that in the case of a minor damage, you can replace the damaged tiles instead of replacing the entire floor. But before installing garage tiles, make sure that the condition of your concrete floor is good enough.

Though many consider garage tiles an expensive option, they are quite easy to maintain and are known for their durability. In fact, they are one of the most durable flooring options that can enhance the look of your garage by converting it from a neglected and messy place to an important and attractive part of your house.
