There is no end to creativity that people can put in while designing bunk beds. Plans for such beds can be sketched out on different parameters and specifications, using inputs and ideas from all your family members, including kids.
The first factor that you need to consider while making a bunk bed is its purpose, i.e., you need to consider the person who is going to use it. The age of the person also matters, as several aspects of the plan such as the dimensions, structure, and the utilities and fixtures that are to be attached to the bed depends on the person. While sketching the plans, you will also need to consider some other aspects such as material that you are going to use and the frame of the bed that you are going to construct. Here are some plans that you may consider before having a bed for your loved one.
Plan 1
The ‘table under the bed’, is not exactly new one. It is usually used for space management. As the name implies, the table is placed under the level of bunk bed. It is usually suitable to build these type of beds in rooms that have high ceilings and large windows, as sleeping on the bunk, and having a congested atmosphere proves to be uncomfortable. The appropriate choice of material is wood. Maple or teak in a polished form with an accompaniment of plywood works wonders.
Plan 2
A bunk bed does not mean that you need to have only ‘beds’ in such types of furniture; you can be creative and churn out some excellent plans with the help of storage spaces. You may employ some innovative means to do so, such as making a set of drawers within the bed. You may also have a small chamber cupboard on each bunk. This might increase the cost a bit, but on the positive side, you will get more storage space. The space beneath the lower bunk is often employed for the purpose of making storage spaces. At times, it is used to make pullout drawers. This space can also be utilized to make an additional pullout bed.
Plan 3
There are multiple ways in which the actual platforms are constructed. The common is one bed over the other, with two planes parallel to each other. Sometimes people also use triple bunk beds, which can also become an additional storage space. Some of them also have perpendicularly placed bed platforms. Such plans are however, applicable only for large-sized rooms.
Plan 4
The last plan is the creative structuring of the entire furniture. Bunk beds with stairs have become very common. However, there are some wacky ideas like shaping the entire structure like a cruise ship. Some make it in the shape of an aircraft carrier too. Alternatively, for little girls, you can shape the entire furniture like a doll house or a fairy tale palace.
The best thing that you can do is talk with your kids. This always proves to be advantageous, as your kids will definitely have their own ideas and inputs about the design in order to make their bed special.
