To make an investment for a sofa in your living room, you must think well. We help you choose the best fabric for your sofa.
It's easy to take the decision to buy a new sofa. However, it is not easy to decide what kind of a sofa you want. If that is easy, then finding the kind is difficult.
Do you want just a sofa or the best sofa bed available? Do you want leather upholstery or woven fabrics? Do you want a sofa for your living room or your bedroom? There are so many considerations to be made while buying a sofa. Here, are the best sofa fabric to choose when considering buying a new sofa.

Choosing Sofa Fabrics

There are numerous fabrics available out there, that actually make the entire process of choosing one that is suited for your needs very challenging. There are a number of points to keep in mind while choosing the fabric, the biggest one being, do you have pets? Cats and dogs can easily claw into the light fabric within hours of your new and proud purchase.
So you have to choose a fabric that is resistant to all their torture. The next thing to keep in mind is that do you have kids, as they can cause more mess compared to your pets. The third point is the purpose of the sofa (decorative/utilitarian).
For instance, if you're purchasing a sofa where you expect to be sleeping every once in a while, then leather ones will not be a great choice. You may rather opt for a softer fabric.
Apart from this, how often will the sofa be used should also be considered? Is it in a den where you spend an hour or two, or the living room where you spend your full day? A fabric for the sofa has to be chosen keeping in mind the overall theme and pattern of interior designing in the room you are placing it in. Let's see some options that may be best.

Microfiber is an ideal choice for a house with pets. As the name suggests, this fabric has extremely closely woven fibers that do not allow pet hair to stick to it. It may also be cleaned easily if soiled and is low maintenance.
Further, it is a wonderfully soft that is perfect for you to lounge around all day.

Leather as a sofa fabric has a class of its own. Leather furniture looks modern, rich, and extremely stylish in the contemporary as well as traditional setting.
While it is a great choice for pets who shed a lot, it is not great if you have pets who have the tendency to scratch furniture. Leather is great for a house with kids too, as it may be cleaned and maintained easily. It is also the most commonly used material on recliner sofas.

Faux Leather

Those of you who are a little worried about getting home a leather sofa may choose faux leather. It is as durable and in fact, more resistant to pets and their behavior.
A faux leather sofa is also less expensive than actual leather, but looks equally rich. Therefore, you may consider this as an option when choosing sofa fabrics.

Chenille is another fabric that not only looks rich and elegant, but is also more durable as compared to other fabrics. It is soft, and is ideal for a living room.

Rayon Blends

When blended with other fabrics such as cotton, wool, or silk, rayon is soft, durable, and comfortable. It is also mildew and fade resistant. It is however, not a great choice for a sofa exposed to excess wear and tear, as it will start looking worn out in a shorter period.

Acrylic fibers resemble those of wool, thus providing a soft feel to your couch. Not only is it highly durable, wrinkle, stain, and fade resistant, it is one of the more affordable fabrics around.

Silk is ideal for a sofa that is used occasionally, not regularly. It is very difficult to maintain, and should be carefully chosen. It is also a slightly more expensive fabric.
It is however, extremely rich and elegant, and perfect for a living room that is not used so often.
Other fabrics that may be used for sofas are cotton, wool, jute, and linen. These, however, are all high maintenance as they stain easily and are not capable of handling excess wear and tear.
In most cases, it is best to consult with the dealer you are purchasing the sofa or the fabric from to help you decide what fabric is suitable for you. Also remember to get instructions on how to clean the fabric that you have chosen, and methods to protect it, so that it lasts as long as possible.
What you must know is that the best fabric is ultimately one that you are comfortable with, and one that suits your needs. As long as you know how to make the most of your sofa and have it fit into any interior space, you are bound to have a good looking piece of furniture that can be the star of your room.
